Investigator Use
Magnet AXIOM Web Page Saver is a free forensic web content capture tool from Magnet Forensics, a leading digital forensics company. For investigators, legal professionals, and forensic examiners who need to capture web content in a forensically sound manner suitable for evidence submission, Web Page Saver provides verifiable, documented captures that withstand scrutiny in legal proceedings.
Unlike standard browser save features, Web Page Saver is designed specifically to meet evidentiary standards: it captures the complete page including rendered content, generates cryptographic hash values (MD5 and SHA-1) of the captured content, records the capture timestamp, and documents the tool version used. This metadata is essential for establishing the integrity and authenticity of digital evidence in court.
The tool captures pages as they appear at a specific point in time — including dynamically loaded JavaScript content — preserving the visual experience as the investigator saw it rather than just the raw HTML. This is important for social media profiles, news articles, and other dynamically rendered content where the raw HTML alone does not represent what was actually visible.
Web Page Saver also generates a hash-verified export that can be reviewed in Magnet AXIOM (the full forensic platform) alongside other digital evidence, enabling integrated case management where web captures and traditional digital forensics evidence are managed in a single platform.
For law enforcement, corporate investigators, and civil litigators, having evidence captured with a recognized forensic tool from an established vendor provides a credibility advantage compared to screenshots taken with generic tools. Courts and opposing counsel are more likely to accept evidence from purpose-built forensic platforms.
The free version of Web Page Saver is available as a standalone download and doesn't require a full AXIOM license — making forensic-grade web capture accessible without the full commercial platform investment.
Limitations include the same challenges all web capture tools face with heavy JavaScript, access-controlled content, and rapidly changing pages. For maximum evidence quality, capture pages immediately upon discovery before subjects have opportunity to modify or delete content.
Always document the capture tool version, capture timestamp, and hash values in any evidence report that references Web Page Saver captures.
