Truecaller is a global phone number intelligence platform that maintains an extensive database of phone numbers, caller identities, and spam/fraud reports contributed by its 350+ million users worldwide. It provides caller identification, spam detection, and reverse phone lookup capabilities.

For OSINT investigators, Truecaller's crowdsourced database is particularly powerful for identifying mobile phone numbers globally — a class of numbers that traditional telephone directory databases largely do not cover due to mobile number privacy norms.

Reverse phone lookup through Truecaller can identify the name associated with a mobile number in many cases, particularly for users of the Truecaller app who have allowed their number to be added to the database. The database is strongest in India, which has the largest Truecaller user base, along with significant coverage in parts of Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East.

Spam and fraud number detection is a direct investigative tool. Truecaller's community-flagging system identifies phone numbers that have been reported as spam, fraud, telemarketing, or scam by other users. When a phone number from an investigation appears in Truecaller with existing fraud flags, it confirms prior reporting of the number in connection with malicious activity.
